ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION AND HOMOEOPATHY

Erectile Dysfunction and Homoeopathy:

- Erectile Dysfunction, or impotency as it is commonly known, refers to a man’s inability to obtain or maintain erection of the penis during sexual activity.
- A penile erection is the hydraulic effect of blood entering and being retained in sponge-like bodies within the penis.
- The process is most often initiated as a result of sexual arousal, when signals are transmitted from the brain to nerves in the penis.

- The most important organic causes of impotence are cardiovascular disease and diabetes, neurological problems (for example, trauma from prostatectomy surgery), hormonal insufficiencies (hypogonadism) and drug side effects.
- Obesity, heart disease, smoking, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diabetes, psychological factors like stress, anxiety and negative feelings, the use of anti-depressants — all these usually contribute a lot to Erectile Dysfunction.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction:

- In  majority of cases psychological reasons are implicated behind erectile dysfunction.
- Vascular disease involving internal pudendal artery is thought to be one of the reasons for age related impotency.
- A nerve injury or spinal cord injury may result in impotence.
Impotence may be an early symptom of diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, tabes dorsalis etc.
- Medications (antidepressants, such as SSRIs, and nicotine[citation needed] are most common)
- Cavernosal disorders (Peyronie's disease)
- Psychological causes: performance anxiety, stress, and mental disorders
- Surgery
- Aging. It is four times more common in men aged in their 60s than those in their 40s.
- Kidney failure
- Diseases such as diabetes mellitus and multiple sclerosis (MS). While these two causes have not been proven they are likely suspects as they cause issues with both the blood flow and nervous systems.
- Lifestyle: smoking is a key cause of erectile dysfunction. Smoking causes impotence because it promotes arterial narrowing.

Symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction:
- Inability to get an erection is usually the only complaint.
In cases of penile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and spermatorrhoea may be found.
- Depression often accompanies impotence. Severe depression can lead to impotence and impotence can lead to depression.
- It works both ways.

Diagnosis:
- There are no formal tests to diagnose erectile dysfunction. Some blood tests are generally done to exclude underlying disease, such as hypogonadism and prolactinoma.
- Impotence is also related to generally poor physical health, poor dietary habits, obesity, and most specifically cardiovascular disease such as coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease.
- Therefore, a thorough physical examination is helpful, in particular the simple search for a previously undetected groin hernia since it can affect sexual functions in men and is easily curable.

Duplex ultrasound
- Duplex ultrasound is used to evaluate blood flow, venous leak, signs of atherosclerosis, and scarring or calcification of erectile tissue.
- Injecting prostaglandin, a hormone-like stimulator produced in the body, induces the erection. Ultrasound is then used to see vascular dilation and measure penile blood pressure.

Penile nerves function
- Tests such as the bulbocavernosus reflex test are used to determine if there is sufficient nerve sensation in the penis.
- The physician squeezes the glans (head) of the penis, which immediately causes the anus to contract if nerve function is normal.
- A physician measures the latency between squeeze and contraction by observing the anal sphincter or by feeling it with a gloved finger inserted past the anus.

Nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT)
- It is normal for a man to have five to six erections during sleep, especially during rapid eye movement (REM). Their absence may indicate a problem with nerve function or blood supply in the penis.
- There are two methods for measuring changes in penile rigidity and circumference during nocturnal erection: snap gauge and strain gauge.
- A significant proportion of men who have no sexual dysfunction nonetheless do not have regular nocturnal erections.

Penile biothesiometry
- This test uses electromagnetic vibration to evaluate sensitivity and nerve function in the glans and shaft of the penis.

Dynamic infusion cavernosometry (DICC)
- Technique in which fluid is pumped into the penis at a known rate and pressure. It gives a measurement of the vascular pressure in the corpus cavernosum during an erection.

Corpus cavernosometry
- Cavernosography measurement of the vascular pressure in the corpus cavernosum.
- Saline is infused under pressure into the corpus cavernosum with a butterfly needle, and the flow rate needed to maintain an erection indicates the degree of venous leakage.
- The leaking veins responsible may be visualized by infusing a mixture of saline and x-ray contrast medium and performing a cavernosogram.
- In Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), the images are acquired digitally.

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)
- This is similar to magnetic resonance imaging. Magnetic resonance angiography uses magnetic fields and radio waves to provide detailed images of the blood vessels. Doctors may inject a "contrast agent" into the patient's bloodstream that causes vascular tissues to stand out against other tissues.
- The contrast agent provides for enhanced information regarding blood supply and vascular anomalies.

HYDROCELE AND HOMOEOPATHY

HYDROCELE:

A hydrocoele is a collection of fluid around the testicle in the scrotum (the bag that holds your testicles).
It is in no way dangerous and usually requires no treatment: many men have small hydrocoeles they are not even aware of. However sometimes it may reach a size where it becomes uncomfortable or awkward and in this case homoeopathy is the best.
Hydrocele is common in newborns and usually disappears without treatment during the first year of life. Older boys and adult men can develop a hydrocele due to inflammation or injury within the scrotum.
A hydrocele usually isn't painful or harmful and might not need any treatment. However, if you have scrotal swelling, see your doctor to rule out other causes.

Causes- A hydrocele can develop before birth. Normally, the testicles descend from the developing baby's abdominal cavity into the scrotum. A sac accompanies each testicle, allowing fluid to surround the testicles.
Usually, each sac closes and the fluid is absorbed. However, fluid can remain after the sac closes (noncommunicating hydrocele). The fluid is usually absorbed gradually within the first year of life.
Sometimes, however, the sac remains open (communicating hydrocele). The sac can change size or, if the scrotal sac is compressed, fluid can flow back into the abdomen. Communicating hydroceles are often associated with inguinal hernia.

Older males
A hydrocele can develop as a result of injury or inflammation within the scrotum. Inflammation might be caused by an infection in the testicle or in the small, coiled tube at the back of each testicle (epididymitis)

Others:
- Toxicity due to wrong dietary habits.
- Suppressive drugs.
- General wrong living.
- Sexual excess and abuse are the main factors.
- Tuberculosis, dropsy, gonorrheal infection and obstruction of abdominal vein are other factors.

Symptoms-
- Usually, the only indication of a hydrocele is a painless swelling of one or both testicles.
- Adult men with a hydrocele might experience discomfort from the heaviness of a swollen scrotum. Pain generally increases with the size of the inflammation. Sometimes, the swollen area might be smaller in the morning and larger later in the day.
